
Warminster is only two miles away and its prosperity as a wool town and corn market in the 18th century has left a heritage of beautiful houses, mullion-windowed cottages and numerous antique shops. Also nearby is the Iron Age hill fort of Cley Hill and great Elizabethan mansion of Longleat House with its famous Safari Park . Bird watching, fishing and horse riding can all be enjoyed in the vicinity and there are three local golf courses.
Within 20 miles are many attractions including the Georgian City of Bath with its Roman Baths, the ancient cathedral cities of Salisbury and Wells, and prehistoric stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury. Enjoy the rolling Mendip Hills, 18th century landscape garden of Stourhead , and historic houses including Wilton , Bowood and Corsham Court. Also view the beautiful stone-built town of Bradford-on Avon, picturesque villages of Castle Combe and Lacock, and hilltop town of Shaftesbury.
A little further afield are Glastonbury Abbey, the old seaport of Bristol, ancient English capital of Winchester, royal hunting ground of the New Forest, Thomas Hardy Country , Dorset Heritage Coast , Cotswolds and Wye Valley.
